Saturday 29 March 2025

We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers who turned out last Saturday for our Wombles of Arundel Community litter pick!

Over 35 volunteers joined in on a beautifully sunny Spring morning, including a team of junior litter pickers from Arundel CE Primary, and tackled known litter hotspots. Most prolific were cans/bottles and cigarette ends; but it is always interesting to see what others throw away – or accidentally lose – odd shoes, socks and a dog’s ball, which of course found a new home with a volunteer’s pooch!

Well done to Ben and Paige for finding the most unusual object – a suitcase of smelly, dirty, old clothes – and persevering to drag it back through the woods for onward disposal. They win a £10 book token for their efforts.

Thank you too to the Cleansing team on duty on Saturday from Arun District Council who collected all the full bags and piles of heavier rubbish from locations around the town, to recycle what they could. We’re working with them to try to clear away remains of old rusted signs which are in overgrown brambles around Fitzalan Road, and also the area between the river and the Lido where there is a large amount of dumped wood, cardboard and rope etc.

Do save the date for the next litter pick – on Saturday 7 June – during #GreatBigGreenWeek – for more information contact Tracy Clayton townevents@arundeltowncouncil.gov.uk
