The 80th anniversary of D-Day falls on 6 June 2024, when the Arundel community will come together to commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of the Allied forces.

Join us from 7pm at the historic Hiorne Tower to enjoy an evening of music, reflection and thanks with Arundel Town Council, Arundel churches and the troops of the 137 (Java) Battery.

The Town Crier will read the D-Day 80 Proclamation (which will also be read in the Town Square at 11am) and troops from the 137 (Java) Battery will read accounts of D-Day soldiers. The Arundel and Littlehampton Scout Band, the Phoenix Big Band and Ladies That Boogie will provide musical accompaniment to the commemorations. There will be a short service before the lighting of the beacon, conducted by Canon David Twinley of St Nicholas’ Parish Church.

The evening will end with the reading of the International Tribute by the Mayor alongside the lighting of the Arundel Beacon by His Grace, the Duke of Norfolk on the top of Hiorne Tower at 9.15pm.

This is a free event for the Arundel community hosted by Arundel Town Council, made possible by kind permission of His Grace, with the support of the Norfolk Estate team.

Bring a picnic, chairs/rugs, a torch and warm layers/sun cream depending on the British weather on the day! Any changes/cancellations necessary due to bad weather will be communicated on the Council’s website/Facebook page and on other local social media pages where possible

Toilet facilities available on site.

Please note there will be no vehicle access or parking at this event. Residents are encouraged to walk/cycle, get a taxi or park elsewhere in the town or at home.
